On December 13, 2007, the Oregon Insurance Division issued a formal Bulletin requiring insurance policies that are issued in Oregon to provide coverage to a registered domestic partner under the same terms as provided to the spouse of a married employee. This Bulletin was issued notwithstanding considerable push-backs and challenges from the insurance community, and despite questions as to the Insurance Division's legal authority to mandate such coverage.
